China’s Yu Zidi won the women’s 200-metre butterfly at the Asian Games in Tokyo on 20 September 2026, finishing in 2 minutes 5.08 seconds to set a Games record.
The 13-year-old finished 3.36 seconds ahead of Chinese teammate Chang Mohan, according to AFP reporting carried by CNA. Her time lowered the mark set by Zhang Yufei at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The result gives Yu an individual title after her breakthrough at the 2025 world championships, where she earned a relay bronze aged 12. She is scheduled to contest three individual events at these Games.
China won six of the seven swimming finals on the opening day. Yu’s victory was part of that strong start, with Olympic champion Pan Zhanle also winning the men’s 100-metre freestyle.
