Zoe Hobbs and Emmanuel Eseme win Commonwealth 100m titles in Glasgow
Zoe Hobbs won the Commonwealth women’s 100m in a personal-best 10.93 seconds, while Emmanuel Eseme took the men’s title in a Games-record 9.83 in rain-hit Glasgow.
New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs won the women’s 100 metres at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Tuesday, July 28, setting a personal best of 10.93 seconds in rain-affected conditions.
England’s Amy Hunt finished second in 10.98 seconds, while Australia’s Torrie Lewis took bronze in 10.99, an Australian record. Hobbs produced her winning run from lane seven after persistent rain left the track wet and disrupted parts of the athletics programme.
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme won the men’s 100 metres in a Commonwealth Games record of 9.83 seconds. Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy earned silver with a national record of 9.85, and Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi claimed bronze in 9.90.
Australia also secured gold in the men’s 10,000 metres through Ky Robinson, who finished in 27 minutes 48.93 seconds. India’s Gulveer Singh won silver, while David Mullarkey’s bronze was the Isle of Man’s first Commonwealth Games medal in track and field.
The severe weather had its greatest impact on field events. Organisers suspended the women’s high jump for nearly 90 minutes before competition resumed later in the evening.
