AMD said on September 28, 2026, that it had agreed to acquire World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.
The company expects completion by the end of 2026. After closing, World Labs co-founder and chief executive Fei-Fei Li would become AMD’s executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to chief executive Lisa Su.
World Labs develops spatial-intelligence models that create and reconstruct interactive three-dimensional environments from text, images and video. Its work also includes robotic learning and simulation.
AMD said the research team would help it understand the computing demands of emerging AI applications and guide development of its hardware, software and systems. World Labs would continue its model research following the transaction, according to the announcement.
