Ethiopia’s Innovation and Technology Minister Belete Molla called for greater domestic capacity to adapt and develop technology as the STRIDE Ethiopia 2.0 summit opened on September 29, 2026.
Fana Broadcasting Corporate and the Ethiopian News Agency reported his remarks. Belete described technological sovereignty as the ability to make independent choices about technology and tailor it to Ethiopia’s needs, while continuing international cooperation.
According to ENA, he urged a shift beyond adopting imported technology toward developing, manufacturing and exporting Ethiopian solutions. He pointed to artificial intelligence, biotechnology and space science as fields reshaping competition.
The summit is scheduled for September 29 to October 1. The Ministry of Innovation and Technology’s event notice identifies the Science Museum in Addis Ababa as the venue.
The gathering brings together researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, public officials and development partners to discuss Ethiopia’s science and technology trajectory.
