Ethiopian Defence University Opens Laboratory for AI and Cybersecurity Research

Ethiopian Defence University has inaugurated an Advanced Central Laboratory designed to support research and specialised training in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and other advanced technologies, according to two reports by Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

Defence Minister Aisha Mohammed said the facility would contribute to the Ethiopian Defence Force’s modernisation and expand the university’s role in defence education, scientific research and technology development. The reports did not provide a construction cost, staffing level or detailed timetable for individual research programmes.

Because the laboratory is linked to the defence sector, its work may span both academic and security applications. Claims about its future national impact remain projections from officials and will depend on funding, personnel and the research it produces.
