Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske-Selassie and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issued separate messages marking the 1,501st Mawlid al-Nabi, according to official reports published on August 24 and August 25, 2026.

President Taye extended greetings to Muslims in Ethiopia and around the world. His message expressed the hope that the celebration would be observed in a spirit of peace, love, mutual understanding and unity.

Prime Minister Abiy called on Ethiopians to draw lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad and apply them through purpose, sacrifice and service in the country’s nation-building efforts. The two messages together emphasized peaceful observance, social cohesion and public service during the religious occasion.
