Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL) launched a digital customer self-service platform in Addis Ababa on September 4, 2026, giving customers online access to services previously dependent on paperwork and office visits.

The launch was reported by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) on September 4 and by Fana Media Corporation on September 5. ENA said the web and mobile platform includes registration, shipment tracking, bookings, demurrage management, digital payments and complaints handling, with AI-supported chatbots providing assistance.

ESL chief executive Abdulber Shemsu Ahmed said the system forms part of the company’s modernization programme and is intended to reduce delays in accessing services, according to ENA. These are the company’s stated goals; the launch reports do not provide measured reductions in processing times or costs.

A separate account published by Ethiopian business outlet 2merkato on September 4, citing Sheger FM, said the launch took place at the Sheraton Hotel. It reported that customers would be able to follow shipments and carry out service tasks remotely using their phones.

The distinction between the new customer platform and further planned systems matters for users. ENA reported that Ethiopian Maritime Authority deputy director general Fraol Tafa said terminal management systems would be introduced subsequently. The customer-service launch therefore does not establish that the wider digital overhaul of port operations is complete.
