Fake ‘Odyssey’ Streaming Sites Target Film Fans’ Bank Details

Fraudulent websites claiming to offer free streams of The Odyssey are targeting film fans for personal and banking information, prompting warnings about phishing, financial loss and malware.

The sites imitate streaming services and use fabricated ratings and reviews to appear credible. Some adapt their language to a visitor’s location and claim to offer dubbed versions of the film.

Users who try to play the film are asked to register with their name and email address. They may then be told that bank details are required to activate a supposedly free trial. The promised stream does not exist, while the information supplied can be used for theft or further phishing attempts.

Cybersecurity company Kaspersky advised viewers to use official services and to treat offers for newly released cinema films on unfamiliar platforms as a warning sign. Consumers should also inspect website addresses carefully before entering personal information.

Anyone who has submitted payment details to a suspected scam site should contact their bank immediately, change important passwords and enable multi-factor authentication. Victims should also report the incident to the relevant national fraud authority.

The campaign illustrates how criminals exploit interest surrounding major entertainment releases. The risk extends beyond an initial payment: malicious downloads can give attackers access to information stored on a device.
