A federal judge has temporarily barred a rival to X from using the Twitter name, while allowing the startup to continue using “Tweet” for now, according to a September 4, 2026 report by TechCrunch.
The judge found at this stage of the case that X was likely to have abandoned the “Tweet” trademark and the former Twitter bird logo, the report said. The rival service has since relaunched under the name Tweet.app.
The order is temporary and does not amount to a final resolution of the trademark dispute. It nevertheless draws a distinction between the Twitter brand name and other elements historically associated with the platform after its rebranding as X.
