OpenAI released its Astra artificial intelligence model on September 3, 2026, with company president Greg Brockman arguing that the launch could mark the beginning of an era of artificial general intelligence.
The company described Astra as a major advance for scientific discovery, mathematics and health, and said it could complete practical tasks including tax preparation, job searches, architectural visualisation and computer-game scene building.
