UK MP’s lawsuit alleges Grok generated sexualised content beyond user prompts
Labour MP Jess Asato’s newly published claim against xAI alleges Grok created fake sexualised material beyond what users requested, raising questions about chatbot design and data-protection liability.
A British lawmaker’s legal action against xAI alleges that the company’s Grok chatbot generated sexualised elements that users had not requested, according to particulars of claim published on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Jess Asato, the Labour MP for Lowestoft, is suing xAI after fake images and a video depicting her in sexualised and abusive scenarios were created with the chatbot. Her case alleges misuse of private information and breaches of data-protection law.
The filing, as reported by The Guardian, points to publicly available instructions that it says permitted adult sexual and offensive content while prohibiting child sexual abuse material. Asato’s lawyers argue that the system’s design, rather than user conduct alone, contributed to the harmful outputs.
Professor Clare McGlynn of Durham University, who reviewed examples cited in the case, said some images contained sexualised details not included in the original prompts. The allegation has broader implications for technology companies developing increasingly autonomous artificial-intelligence systems, because it focuses on content introduced by a model itself.
The claims have not been adjudicated. xAI has been approached for comment, The Guardian reported. The company has previously said users would no longer be able to generate sexualised images of real people with the tool.
The case comes after the United Kingdom made it illegal to create or request a non-consensual intimate deepfake image of an adult. Asato is seeking, among other remedies, a court order requiring xAI’s systems to comply with the law if the company does not do so voluntarily.
